Maltese Falcon

In the early 1960’s a Dynarig concept was developed in Germany to achieve alternative propulsion for commercial shipping during the oil crisis. The idea went into the archives when no Dynarigs where built.

The owner of “Maltese Falcon” started the project with an existing Perini hull, he appointed Gerard Dijkstra & Partners as the Naval Architects. Gerard Dijkstra came with the suggestion for the Dynarig concept. The team for this complex, yet promissing project was formed and the work could start.
After years of designing, improving and testing of the rig, “Maltese Falcon” succesfully completed her first seatrial in June 2006. The yacht has 3 free standing carbon fibre masts with each 5 individually sails, each mast can rotate to suit the wind direction. Setting all sails only takes 6 minutes and tacking can be done within 90 seconds, leaving as much as time possible for enjoying sailing this groundbreaking yacht.
