On October 17th, the Dykstra Cup 2009 was sailed on the IJsselmeer. 5 plumb bow sailing yachts designed by Dykstra & Partners Naval Architects raced against each other for the line honors. The conditions where great: a sunny fall day with 20 knots of breeze.
The 56ft “Lisa”, 50ft “Abel T”, 53ft “Alice”, 49ft “Katharos” and the 53ft “Bestevaer 2” set sail from Makkum and started in 2 different groups, which resulted in close racing. Gerard Dykstra himself was navigator on his own “Bestevaer 2”, with his wife Loontje on the helm. They won on Line honors.
The event, hosted by K&M Yachtbuilders and Dykstra & Partners, had a very special character as it great to get 5 of these yachts together. Normally they cruise all over the World and sail to as well cold as warm destinations like Greenland or Brazil. So it will be hard to say if there will be a 2nd Cup in Holland next year, “maybe in the Caribbean” one of the owners suggested. Who knows….
